This little fryer is absolutely perfect for the countertop cooking of fish when there are 4-6 people for dinner. Couldn’t be more pleased with the performance and looks.

This is a very solid machine, works efficiently, quickly, safely, and easy clean up. I am working on testing for restaurant items and I am using it a lot. The double basket is imperative…the only problem for some may be the space required, but re arrange people, its worth it!

I replaced an old-school deep fryer/crock combo, it is very very common, I guess they hold 3 liters without the porcelain crock. Who knew? With the porcelaine crock “out” the old one cooks about 25 wings, of good quality chicken wings, good name brand, barely immerses all 25, but just fine. Smaller wings may not be “average” or good.
Family of 4 (40, 40, 19, 15) eats 45 wings, average/common meal, with 2 sides. I saw a popular 4-litre unit in a big store, was disappointed in quality and flip-lever on handle (yikes).

This Oster one is holds 4 litres which should be much more than my old “crock” style, but Oster is fairly wide and SQUARE. Only immersed maybe 15 wings with recommended 4 litres. I’m not talking pizza joint wings, but not turkey wings either. But there is a surprise! It actually is designed 2 or 3 inches deeper than needed so that you can STRAIN food on a basket-hook! That is a lot of depth, and it only takes 10 seconds to shake oil off. I was able to put about 6+ litres of oil and 25 average “brand name” drums & wings. Very happy now. I was hoping for more bulk food (our wings are not a side-dish), but this is only 1500 or so watts, and MORE would have cooled off the oil (and heater) too much anyway. I’m guessing that more wattage may not make a huge time difference.

About 20 minutes to heat up SIX litres of oil to 350, not terrible. Goes to 375. NO where near a boiling-over problem with food with six litres, full-load of food. When I dropped 25 wings in, well, it doesn’t have an industrial heater, but it regained temp much better than my fryer/crock combo.

Very sturdy unit. Good basket handles, baskets, and heating “tub”, that is removable from a real sturdy frame. The vents blow steam STRIGHT on the control knobs and panel. Not good. But, I read other reviews on similar units. I made a little shield out of an aluminum bake pan (partial, cut-out), space to remove easily. Can’t see lights with shield on, but at max food capacity, it doesn’t get back to max temp very fast. 25 wings in 6 litres took about 20 minutes to cook (we like crispy), starting at 375, I’m happy. When last batch came out, we dropped O-rings and fries in the 2 basket option, it took about 10 minutes while we were applying wing sauce. Crispy fries!

Oh, safety power plug (magnet) is touchy but I like the cooker anyway. Potato cutter is nice, 2 slice sizes, i guess it is a factor in the price-point. Just saying. The unit is good quality. The popular $50 fryer unit I saw and handled was disturbing. With the shield I made for this Oster, I’m feeling good about durability. It is sturdy. We are thinking about a 2-gallon turkey fryer next (for our wings), but for now this is an improvement, and not a big 1.5 cu. foot, appliance forever. It is not perfect, but not a cheap fryer either. Others seem not to be made for weekly use, for “years”? Just to compare – this isn’t a W***** outdoor gas (burger) grill, and not comparable to a 300 buck (plus) commercial oil fryer either. I have a regular, bargain propane (burger) grill and make it work just fine. Play with cheap oil fryers, then look at this oil fryer or…. maybe a $300 or better high-end unit. Maybe get an electrician too (not kidding). vajrock at sign amer on line point com.
