This review is from: Monster Cable MP HTS 1900G Home Theater PowerCenter with Clean Power Stage 2 (Electronics)

My old Monster HTS 2000 MKII kicked the bucket this week after 5+ years and Monster offered to replace it with the newer HDP 1400G model for $153 (out of warranty) after I send the old HTS 2000 to them. So I did my research and decided to go with the HTS 1900G instead because it has more outlets, stage 2 filtering, and 2 USB ports. Since it comes with 300 RF protector, you actually get 12 total outlets which is what I need since I was using all 12 on the HTS 2000 and the newer HDP 1400G only has 10. For most people, a unit like this is overkill. But ive got some higher end equipment and my house seems to get hit with quite a few power surges everytime the weather gets really bad so I would rather be safe than sorry. The HTS 1900G does not make a humming sound like others have reported for other models. It also is not wall-mountable. And the blue led display on the front can be dimmed. As far as the difference goes between what I had before and the newer HTS 1900G, I probably will never notice it. At least I should be able to save some power with the newer unit.

I read a lot of reviews about Monster surge protectors failing after 5 years. That seems to be the norm and even the rep I spoke to at Monster admitted that many their units fail after 5 years. He said they fail because of the years of absorbing surges. I guess that’s why they put only a 5 year warranty on their products because they know they fail after that. I looked for similar products from other companies but unless you really, really know what you are exactly looking for, there just aren’t that many options out there. Belkin makes similar surge protectors but I find them to be inferior to Monster’s as ive owned surge protectors from both companies. You would think for as much as these surge protectors cost, you would be able to get more than 5 years out of them but I guess that would be asking for too much. Monster has been good to me in the past so I have stuck with them. They replaced an older HTS 1000 MKI with the HTS 2000 MKII for free after the HTS 1000 was hit by a massive surge and fried my DVD-recorder which they also paid to get fixed. This was back in 2007. I currently have 6 different Monster surge protectors between my home and office because of that experience.

This part is where I am revising my review and changing it from 4 stars to 2. The reason why is because the main unit has now shut itself off 4 times by itself. you have to unplug it for 10 seconds then it works again. I doubt ive had 4 power surges in the past 2 nights without bad weather to cause it to do that. why shutting itself off is so annoying is because if you satellite, the receiver has to reboot and find the satellite signal all over once the power it completely cut. that takes 5 mins sometimes. Im going to send mine back to Amazon and go with a different model. Yes maybe only my unit could be defective but im not taking that chance.
